American Eagle Foundation Searching For Missing Peregrine Falcon "Scimitar"

Scimitar,
Scimitar,

The American Eagle Foundation at Pigeon Forge is searching for a missing peregrine falcon.

Julia M. M. Cecere said, "On Saturday around 3 p.m.,, a peregrine galcon got loose from the non-profit American Eagle Foundation's "weathering yard" in Pigeon Forge near Dollywood. The falcon, named Scimitar, is a well-trained and gentle education bird. The American Eagle Foundation is conducting its own search efforts but would like to increase the chances of rescuing their bird by asking their own local residents and several counties southwest of Sevier County to keep their eyes peeled for this medium-sized falcon, as the American Eagle Foundation has received several leads so far and they believe that Scimitar is headed in that direction.

"Scimitar has a grayish-black head, a dark blue-gray back, a small beak, and white and black bars across her chest and under her wings. Scimitar's most important distinguishing factor will be the leather falconry straps attached to her ankles.

"If you believe you have sighted Scimitar, please call either of the following numbers: 865-809-3282 or 865-809-2385. You may also email eaglemail@eagles.org with the word "URGENT" in the subject line. Please make sure you can clearly distinguish the leather straps on her ankles before calling, as this could simply be any other bird-of-prey. Scimitar is a very special bird and the American Eagle Foundation is grateful for all those citizens who will keep a watch out for her."

Soon she could see why. Even with her pulling, and him pushing, the ... (click for more)
