Elderly Man Killed, Wife Critical After Car Hit By Tractor-Trailer Near Dayton Walmart

An elderly man was killed and his wife critically injured when their vehicle was struck by a tractor-trailer on Highway 27 near the Dayton, Tn., Walmart on Wednesday.

Gilford Kyle, 89, died on impact.

His wife, Anna Kyle, was taken to Erlanger Hospital.

The truck driver was not seriously hurt.

The accident happened shortly after 10 a.m. as Mr. Kyle was turning left into Walmart. The truck was going in the opposite direction.

The accident is being worked by the Dayton Police Department, the Rhea County Sheriff's Department, and the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Friends said the Kyles were a beloved Rhea couple, and they organized Thursday night gospel singing at McDonald's.
