Delighted In Serving Others In Missions Work, The Foster System, And Volunteering At Silverdale Prison

Phyllis Lane Golden, 63, of Hixson, Tennessee, died on Saturday, July 12, 2014. 

Phyllis grew up in Jacksonville, Fl., and was a member of the Springfield Church of God from a young age. She was a loving mother, to her four daughters, son-in-law, and two granddaughters, and a dedicated wife who served and loved her husband daily. She delighted in serving those in need both on the mission field in Ukraine and in the foster system of Chattanooga. She attended Mission Chattanooga Church and volunteered weekly at Silverdale Prison, where she led a Bible study. Over her lifetime she was instrumental in leading many to Christ. Phyllis had a deep understanding of God's unconditional love. She was the true essence of being the hands and feet of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Monroe and Marie Lane. 

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, James L. Golden, of Hixson; daughter and son-in-law,  Jennifer and Matthew Wright of Chicago; daughters, Stephanie and Katherine Golden, both of Chattanooga, daughter, Laura Golden of Phoenix; brother and sister-in-law, Douglas and Glenda Lane of Savannah, Ga.; sister and brother-in-law, Sonia and Terry Griffey of Cleveland; and sister and brother-in-law, Cindy and Russell Sesler of Brentwood, Tn. She is Nana to two granddaughters, Madelyn and Abigail Wright. 

Flowers are appreciated and memorial donations can be made to The Next Door, a facility where Phyllis volunteered, designed to equip inmates for life after release.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, July 18, at Chattanooga Funeral Home, East Chapel.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, at the First Presbyterian Church and burial will follow at Chattanooga Memorial Park.       

Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 404 South Moore Road, East Ridge, Tn.
