The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has obtained indictments for a former Grundy County Sheriff’s Department captain accused of stealing handguns from the department’s evidence room.

At the request of 12th District Attorney General J. Michael Taylor, TBI Special Agents began investigating Deke Matthew Stone on Aug. 1, 2013. During the course of the investigation, agents developed information, that in June 2013, Stone took three handguns from the department’s evidence room, the TBI said.

Stone left his job with the department before the TBI case began.

On Monday, the Grundy County Grand Jury returned indictments for the Altamont man, charging him with one count of official misconduct and one count of theft over $1,000.

Today, the 33-year-old turned himself in to TBI Agents at the Grundy County Jail, where he was released after posting $7,500 bond.
