Virginia Irene Mainord Maynor, 79, of Hixson, died on Wednesday, July 16, 2014.

She was born March 20, 1935 in Gruetli, Tn., to the late Stephen Hampton and Maude Mainord.  

After graduating from Grundy County High School in 1952, she married the late Ervin Robert `Bob` Maynor.

After Bob served 23 years in the Air Force, they retired in Hixson. Irene worked at Blue Cross Blue Shield for many years until she retired.

Irene was a member of Falling Water Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

She was a wonderful wife, loving mother, and awesome friend to all.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband, “Bob”; brothers, Waymond, Elmer, Steve, and Dennis Mainord; brother-in-laws, Harvey and George Maynor and Glenn Shavers; niece, Margaret Stubblefield and nephews, Charles, Houston `Corky`, and Landon Mainord, and Baxter Shavers.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Gail Maynor; mother-in-law, Lucy Maynor; several sisters-in-law (Juanita Barry, Sally Beasley, Helen Shavers, Helen Maynor, Thelma Redden) and many nieces (Sharon James, Charlotte Brumley, Linda and Gerleen Mainord, Judy Cash, Candy Smith, Dorothy Layne, Linda Smith, Denise Marr, and Janet Powers) and nephews (Albert, Steven, James and, Dennis Ray Mainord and Perry Maynor), many great nieces and nephews and several great great nieces and nephews.

Irene was dearly loved and will be missed by all her family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, July 20, 4-8 p.m. on Monday, and 10:30-11:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

A celebration of life service for Irene will follow at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 22, at the funeral home chapel with Reverend Jim Barry officiating.  Burial will follow in National Cemetery.

The family has asked that memorial contributions be made in Irene’s name to Falling Water Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 6534 Old Dayton Pike, Hixson, Tn. 37343.

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, Tn. 373434.
