Teacher And Volleyball, Basketball, And Softball Coach In Hamilton County Schools

Anne Rhea Browning, of Chattanooga, died on Wednesday, July 16, 2014.  She was 66.

Anne was born in Clarksville, Tn. She graduated from Red Bank High School in 1965, and was a 1969 graduate of Tennessee Tech where she was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha.  She received her Master’s Degree from Middle Tennessee State University. Anne retired from the Hamilton County school system where she taught at Soddy Daisy Elementary, Soddy Daisy High School and East Ridge Middle School.  Anne coached volleyball, basketball, and softball in the Hamilton County school system. She was a faithful and active member of St. Luke United Methodist Church. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Avis Smith Browning and Lee Jones Browning; maternal grandparents, Elsie Parker Smith and Thomas Leslie Smith; paternal grandparents, Annie Browning and J. O. Browning.

Anne is survived by her aunts and uncles, Syble Patterson, Gale Kuykendall, Slayden Smith, Roland Smith; cousins, Melissia Gray, Andy Patterson, Larry Mason, David Smith, Jennifer Kuykendall, Terry L. Smith, Smitty Smith, Jeff Kuykendall, Michael Patterson, Amy Rye, Chad Smith, Ron Smith, Stacy Dungan, Todd Browning, Jim Eley, and dear friends, Jim Verble, Jimmy Verble, all of whom she cherished and loved dearly. 

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, July 20, at the North Chapel Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Services for Anne will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, July 21, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Reverend David Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens with the nephews serving as pallbearers. 

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, Tn. 37343.
