James T. Capley, Jr.
James Thomas “Sonny” Capley, Jr., 85, of Lookout Valley, died on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at his residence.
A lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area, Sonny was a longtime member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, and was a retired captain with the Chattanooga Fire Department following thirty years of service. He enjoyed hunting and studying Civil War history.
Mr. Capley was preceded in death by his parents, Bub and Nell Capley.
He is survived by his loving wife, Winkie Cavin Capley; sons and daughters-in-law, James Bruce and Chris Midboe Capley, and Thomas Hood and Beverly Winningham Capley, all of Chattanooga; sisters, Alice Capley Kisling of Chattanooga, and Sandra Capley Stewart, Austin, Tx.; grandchildren, Thomas Capley, Christa Capley, and Cullen Capley, all of Chattanooga; and great-grandson, River Capley.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, July 22, at 11:30 a.m. at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with Reverend Grady Davidson and Reverend Everett Gossett officiating. Full military rites will be given.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Chattanooga, or a charity of your choice. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
