An East Ridge man was taken into custody after police said he chased three juveniles around a street with a sword.

Police were alerted to the situation when a woman saw the defendant, 31-year-old Daniel Lee Burton, chase the teens across an intersection.

As the woman approached, she said Burton placed the sword in the trunk of a silver Nissan.

When police arrived, they spoke to Burton. He told them he had "hollered at them to get off the road" and pulled out a sword after one of the juveniles called him a rapist as he was driving up.

He told police that in the past, the juveniles had not been paying attention while he was driving and they were in the street.

He also said they had previously put sand into his mailbox.

He denied chasing the juveniles, saying he had only waved the sword and yelled.

Burton was charged with three counts of aggravated assault. Bond was set at $2,000.

Injustice is terrible.  Period.  I am totally wowed, amazed, and grateful that the six officers have been charged in Baltimore.  Justice will be done like with the officer that shot the man in the back.   That being said,  I don't understand why, when atrocities like this happen, protests and marches can evolve into terrible rioting.  Fortunately ... Roy Exum: From Private To General

It was quite a thing back in March, when Florida Gov. Rick Scott named Maj. Gen. Michael Calhoun to command the state’s National Guard. After all, not many who sign up as a “buck private” climb the ladder all the way to become the state’s Adjutant General, and when you add the fact the highly-respected Calhoun is an African-American, the story only gets better. But there is more: ... (click for more)

Top-Seeded Central Wins Twice In District 6-AA Softball

Central coach LeeAnne Shurette wasn't very excited about her top-seeded team having to play two games on Saturday in the District 6-AA softball tournament at East Ridge, but he won't complain too much after winning both with ease. It didn't take long for the Lady Pounders to beat Hixson in Saturday's first game, needing just six innings to beat the Lady Wildcats from Hixson, ... (click for more)
