Rufus W. White, 90, of LaFayette, GA, died Friday, July 25, 2014.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris White; son, LTC Randy White; grandson, Stan White; sisters, Lucille Pollard and Dorothy Rutledge; brothers, Brantner White and Ben White.
He was a WWII veteran serving in the Navy, on the William C. Miller, Destroyer, Escort “The Mighty Miller”. He received a Bronze Star, five silver Metals and served in Tarwana Iwo Jima, Saipan, Guam, Tokyo Bay for the Surrender. He was of the Baptist Faith. Rufus was a loving father, husband, grandfather, a man of his word, and helpful to all. Special thanks to his caregivers at Woodhaven assisted living in Trenton.
He is survived by his daughter, Lisa White Carlock and her husband Greg of LaFayette; sister, Evelyn Lankford, Dalton; grandchildren, Captain Jessica Carlock Adams, Wiesbaden, Germany, Shelby Carlock, LaFayette, Lauren White Geneva, Al and Jacob Carlock, Blairsville, GA; and great-grandson, Hunter Payne, Geneva, AL.
Funeral from the Wallis Memorial Chapel Tuesday, July 29 at 4 p.m. will be conducted by Pastor Jim Powell. Pallbearers are Greg Carlock, Chat Jennings, Tim Allmon, Jeff Aldridge, Todd Castleberry and Chad Casleberry. Honorary pallbearer is Alex Kimble. Interment will be in LaFayette Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home Monday, July 28 from 6-8 p.m.
