Charles Rhelfort Pope Sr., 71, of South Pittsburg, TN, died Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Park Ridge Medical Center in Chattanooga, due to medical complications.
He was a member of Brakebill Chapel AME Zion Church, in South Pittsburg.
He was born South Pittsburg, on January 10, 1943, to the late Franklin Pope Sr. and Virginia Lee Pope; and was also preceded in death by his father, Franklin Pope Sr.; mother, Virginia Lee Pope; brother, Franklin Pope Jr.; and sister, Elizabeth Pope-Alexander.
He is survived by his son, Charles R. Pope Jr., Tracy City, TN; one brother, Dr. Isaac S. Pope, Chehalis, WA; one sister, Patricia G. Pope, Atlanta; one aunt, Lugenia Gordan, Manchester, NH; two sisters-in-law, Mary Pope-Wiggins, Bridgeport, AL and JoAnn Pope, Chehalis, WA; two nieces, Stephanie Furey, Atlanta and Theresa Pope, Chehalis, WA; four nephews; Cornelius Pope and Christopher Pope, Louisville, KY, David (Joy) Pope, Glendale, CA and Stephen (Francesca) Pope, Brooklyn, NY; great-nephews, Nicholas, Shaquille, Diego, Kamari and Tristian Pope; great-nieces, Azlynn, Jubliee and Oni Pope; one great-great-niece, Kylie Wilson; one great-great-nephew, Isaac Allen Kainz; and a whole host of cousins and friends, including Mable Green, Betty Pearson, Mary Kelly, Diana Cook-Carter, Willie Tipton, Thelma Hutchins, Monroe and Lorraine Powers and Richard Wiggins.
Funeral services will be conducted from the funeral home chapel at 1 p.m. CDT on Saturday, August 2, with Rev. Paul Robinson officiating. Interment will follow in Anderson Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. CDT, on Friday, August 1 at the Tate Funeral Home, who has charge of the arrangements.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Brakebill Chapel AME Zion Church, in South Pittsburg.
