Free Public Event National Night Out August 5

The Cleveland Police Department, along with the Boys and Girls Club, host National Night Out, Tuesday, August 5 from 5 - 8 p.m. The event will be hosted at the Boys and Girls Club Tucker Unit, 385 3rd St. SW.

National Night Out is designed to promote community crime prevention strategies to the public. Officers will share information on Neighborhood Watch, self-defense classes and other programs that the Cleveland Police Department offers. Child fingerprinting will be conducted by officers and inflatable toys will be available for recreation.

  Specialty units such as SWAT and the Explosive Ordnance Device Unit will be present for demos.

The Cleveland Fire Department will be showcasing their equipment and Franklin Academy will be providing the public with free haircuts and face painting. Hotdogs and drinks will be provided free of charge. All children who attend will be given goodie bags.




Wildwater Ocoee Rafting And Zip Event Oct. 8 To Benefit MaryEllen Locher Foundation

Wildwater Ocoee Basin Canopy Tours and Rafting is hosting its 10th annual “Raft/Zip for the Cure,’’ a benefit for the MaryEllen Locher Foundation, on Oct. 8.  Events will include zipline canopy tours for any donation beginning at 9:30 a.m. and Ocoee River rafting at 2 p.m. for a donation of $100 per six people. Seasonal Burning Begins Saturday

The Hamilton-County Air Pollution Control Bureau is reminding Hamilton County residents that seasonal burning will be allowed starting Saturday for residents who obtain a valid permit.   This allows residents of Hamilton County, with a valid permit issued by the Air Pollution Control Bureau, to burn brush and vegetation on approved burning days until April 30, 2017.   ... City To Begin Shipping Much Of Its Garbage To Bradley County

City Public Works Administrator Justin Holland said the city plans to begin shipping much of its garbage to Bradley County. He said the deal is projected to extend the life of the city landfill at Birchwood by 15 years. Man Says He Did Nothing To Provoke Shooting At Bakewell Gas Station; Suspect Says Victim Was Coming Toward Him
