Comment On A Shooting And A Train Idea

  • Wednesday, July 30, 2014

Two recent articles deserve comment.

1.  A man was shot in the knee on West 38th Street on Monday afternoon. Police said he would not cooperate with the investigation.  ...  The victim was transported to a local hospital where he is receiving treatment for the non-life threatening injury.

Well, if he's not going to cooperate with the police, and if he's not paying his own hospital bill, then just send him home.

Why should society have any responsibility to someone who won't accept his own responsibility to society?

2.
Chamber of Commerce President Ron Harr on Monday outlined a $40 million plan for a Chattanooga light rail system ... .

I say, No, thanks.  IF this is such a good idea, then surely some private businessmen would already be all over it.

Just because it is theoretically cheaper than usual for Chattanooga to do such a thing doesn't means it's something Chattanooga ought to do.

But such simple logic never seems to affect those who want to spend other people's money.
