Annie Ruth Hughes Rittenhouse, 94, of Dalton, GA, passed away Wednesday July 30, 2014 at her home surrounded by her loving family. 

Annie was born December 31, 1919 in Walker County, GA to the late George Washington and Patsy George Hughes; and was also preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Carl Rittenhouse Sr.; sons, David Rittenhouse and Saul Rittenhouse; grandson, David Daniel Rittenhouse; great-grandson, Jeffery Silvers; son-in-law, Arnold Rutherford; grandson-in-law, Scott Millsap; sisters, Velma Williams, Essie Lou Bryant, Bessie Darnell and Bertha Rittenhouse; and brothers, Dwight Hughes and Ben Hughes.

Annie was a hard worker and retired from Shaw Industries Plant #5. After her retirement she and Carl loved to visit the Senior Center where he would play the wooden spoons and Annie would dance.  She loved people and was “Momma” or “Granny” to everyone. She was a member of the Church of God.

She is survived by her daughters, Wanda Rutherford, Dawn Reed and Deborah Rittenhouse; sons and daughters-in-law, Carl and Charlotte Rittenhouse, James and Karen Rittenhouse and Bobbie Rittenhouse; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

 The family would like to say a special thanks to the Hospice Staff, Betty Grand, Cindy and Jimmy Guinn.

Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Annie Ruth Rittenhouse will be held Saturday, August 2, at 3 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend David Lovain, Reverend Clint Duke and Reverend Mike Walker officiating.  She will be laid to rest beside her husband at United Memorial Gardens with Matthew Rittenhouse, Steven Rittenhouse, Joe Reed, Jonathan Rittenhouse, Lee Reed and Jimmy Guinn serving as pallbearers.  

The family will receive friends from 5-9 p.m. Friday, August 1 and after noon Saturday, August 2 at Ponders Melrose Chapel who has charge of the arrangements.
