Mary Frances Hurley
Mary Frances Hurley, 92, of Chattanooga, died on Sunday, July 6, at her residence where she was lovingly cared for during a brief illness.
Born on Nov. 14, 1921, to the late John and Essie Mazanek in Alma, Il., she was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Edith Johnson, and brother, John Ross Mazanek.
She attended Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, Ill and was a graduate of the Raley Beauty School. After graduation, Frances moved to Chattanooga in 1944 and accepted a job at the Miller Bros. beauty salon, where she worked till her marriage in March 1946.
She was a charter member of the Key Class at First Christian Church, which she joined in 1944. Her unwavering concern for others above self and a smile for all lives on in our memory of her devotion to family and friends.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Oscar T. Hurley; daughter Ann (Dr. William Johnson) and son John R. Hurley; and grandchildren Ross Hurley, Clay Hurley, Matthew Johnson, and brother Richard Mazanek, and multiple nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, at the Chattanooga Funeral Home, 8214 East Brainerd Road, with Reverend Phil Summerlin, and Dr. John Holcombe officiating. Burial following at Hamilton Memorial Gardens, Hixson, Tn.
The family will receive friends from 6–8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8, at the funeral home and from 1–2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, at Chattanooga Funeral Home, East Brainerd location.
