Weston's Too Young - And Response

Sunday, August 10, 2014

First of all, I voted for Zach Wamp every time he ran beginning with his first and unsuccessful run against Marylyn Lloyd way back when.

My thoughts on the recent race for the Third District seat, I personally think that Weston is too young. I base this opinion on assessing at my age now what I thought about myself and my peers at that stage of our lives. To me, Weston has shown immaturity throughout his two campaigns beginning with the secret taping of his conversation with Mr. Mayfield and ending with his concession call and his subsequent remarks reported by the press.

Get over it. I marveled at his rebutting of a opinion in this very venue and thought for sure he would have been advised against such an immature move. I can and most likely will be for Weston in the future, but I would advise him and other future candidates to get wiser with age, grow thicker skin and learn to let criticism roll off their backs.

As for saying that tens of thousands were deceived by Congressman Fleischman is also saying those voters weren't very smart. Those voters were probably the peers mentioned above who like myself didn't think they would have been ready until maturing through living. I read where you stated if you were 32 or 42 that you would have won. I agree, and I hope I'm still around when you ripen because I'm one who believes that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Robert Richey

* * *

Weston Wamp's concession call gave an insight into the politician that he is, and that is one of a hot-tempered politician at best. The sheer arrogant and distasteful comments he made to Congressman Fleischman showed me that he is not mature enough to be in our government.

I agree with Mr. Richey, that by Weston saying Congressman Fleischman deceived tens of thousands of people, basically states that you Mr. Wamp think that those people who voted against you are idiots. You need to respect the voters, after all they are the ones who decide your future in Congress, or lack thereof.

My advice to Mr. Wamp is that the next time you run for Congress, be the bigger man. I would rather vote for someone with whom I don't necessarily agree with that has good character, than vote for an ill-tempered, sneaky politician in which I agree 100 percent with his views any day. It's not all about what you say, your character wins votes just as much as your objectives to your campaign.
