A Chattanooga man was arrested after police said he attacked his wife at the Highway 153 Walmart on Sunday afternoon.

The wife told police that Charles Newton Jr., 25, started calling her names after she spoke to him there. She said he then became angry and punched her in the face.

She said he hit her three times before she lost consciousness. When she woke, she said she fled to the car repair section to get help.

When police arrived, they noticed the woman had a swollen eye and busted lip.

Newton was arrested later that evening and charged with aggravated assault.

He is scheduled to appear before Sessions Court Judge Clarence Shattuck on Aug. 18.
