School Crossing Guard Struck By Motorist Monday Morning; Driver Not Charged

School crossing guard Noel Bittle was struck by a passing motorist on Monday morning on Browns Ferry Road.

At approximately 7:57 a.m., Chattanooga Police responded to 680 Browns Ferry Road for a school crossing guard who was struck.

Ms. Bittle was transported by EMS to Erlanger Hospital. She suffered several lacerations about her face and body and also has a broken arm.

The driver was southbound on Browns Ferry Road heading towards Interstate 24.

Police said the crossing guard was standing on the double yellow line directing traffic. She was attempting to stop traffic when struck by the vehicle.

The driver stated he did not see her until it was too late and was unable to stop.

At this time, investigators will not be charging the driver.
