Marnell “Nell” Gurley Johnson
Marnell “Nell” Gurley Johnson, died on Tuesday, August 19, 2014.
A native of Goldsboro, N.C., she had been a resident of the Chattanooga area for the past 35 years and was the daughter of the late Leamon and Lillian Gurley.
She was retired from Red Food Store / Bi-Lo after 20 years of service as an assistant deli and bakery manager and cake decorator.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lynn David Johnson, a brother, Franklin Gurley and a nephew, Pat Gurley.
Survivors include two daughters, Terri “Susie” (Bobby) Cotter, Ooltewah and Kimberly (Sean Paul) Krause, Chattanooga; two sons, Dean Johnson, Harrison and Jerry (Pam) Johnson, Hixson; five grandchildren, Beth (Ryan) Dupree, Ashley Johnson, Jericka (Matthew) Holcomb, Courtney Johnson and Dylan Cotter; two great-grandchildren, Lanee Cotter and Andrew Dupree; brother, Gerald G. (Annette) Gurley; sister, Barbara Ann Gurley (Ruben) Browder; sister-in-law, Patsy Gurley and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 22, in the funeral home chapel with the Reverend Richard Barr officiating. Interment will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 21, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 5401 Highway 153.
