JASPER -- Running backs Josh Henderson and Blake Zeman combined for six touchdowns as host Marion County defeated Grundy County, 49-22, in the season opener for both teams as Rick Ross gained his first head coaching win.

Zeman scored on runs of 2, 56 and 13 yards, while Henderson scampered 43 and 3 yards on the ground and caught a 67 yard scoring toss from Bryce Massengale who was 4 of 7 for 89 yards passing on the night.

Zeman rushed for 132 yards on 13 carries, while Henderson gained all his 64 yards (4 carries) in the first half.

The victorious Warriors (1-0) led 28-0 at half and scored in every quarter.

Good Second Half: The Yellow Jackets (0-1) took the second half kickoff and quickly moved 70 yards in nine plays (2:26) as junior quarterback Houston Mainord hit Trey Hampton for the final 27 yards followed by a 2-point conversion.

After Zeman ran 66 yards for his second score to make it 35-8, Mainord once again moved the visitors on a long scoring drive of 78 yards in eight plays, capped by a 17 yard scoring pass to Trent Hampton to make it 35-15.

The Warriors pushed their lead to 49-15 on touchdown runs by Zeman (9 yard run) and Jacob Saylors (8 yard run),  before Mainord, who threw for 232 yards on the night, connected with Logan Meeks for a 28 yard scoring pass and catch to make it 49-22.

"It was great to open the season with a win, but I was a little disappointed with our intensity to start the second half as Grundy moved the ball well to start the half," said coach Ross.

"Even if we are up big on the scoreboard we cannot let up. You have to be great every second, every play."

Kudos For Marion's O-LIne: "Our offensive line did a great job tonight opening the holes for us," said Henderson.

Second Half Effort: "We woke up in the second half and moved the ball well," said Grundy County coach Nick Bryant. "We are young and it showed in the first half. We made some adjustments at halftime and I am proud that we fought to the end.

Opening Prayer: A group of Marion County students led the fans in prayer before the game using a megaphone, thus did not use any school equipment or electricity.

Last 20 Games: The Warriors have won 16 of the last 20 games in the series, including the last three in a row ... Grundy's last win was 21-6 in 2011 at Grundy Co.

PHOTOS: Byron Buxton Shows His Strong Arm In Friday's Game

Top Prospect Byron Buxton demonstrated his strong arm again Friday night at AT&T Field.  In the top of the second inning Biloxi's Nathan Orf  hit a line-drive single to center with the bases-loaded  plating Michael Reed and Brandon Macias who had each walked. Parker Berberet, who was on first base at the time, expected Lookouts' center-fielder Buxton to throw ... (click for more)

Best City, Really? - And Response

I believe the success Chattanooga has had in the best outdoor city contest has got to be the "Ridge Cut" trail. To be able to sit in your vehicle while inching along right beside the old steel plant and, of course, the train yard where tankers sit loaded with hazardous gases. Then passing through one of the city's most active areas for gunfire, it's a win win.   It's ... (click for more)

Roy Exum: City Limits Worry Dogs, Cats

If you are a dog or a cat in the Chattanooga area, it is very important to know exactly where the city limits are. You need to know that if a stray animal is rescued in the city, it is taken to one of the finest animal shelters in all of America. But if the errant pooch or tabby is found in Hamilton County – outside the city limits -- it is taken to arguably the worst animal facility ... (click for more)
