Thornton, Ruth Gay Alexander

Ruth Gay Alexander Thornton, 79, of Signal Mountain died peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family, on August 22, 2014 after a lengthy illness.

Gay was a lifelong resident of Signal Mountain and she will be remembered as a loving mother, wife, grandmother, and daughter to her family. Gay had many interests such as art, music and loved dealing in antiques. Most of all she loved people and was devoted to her family and friends that loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Denton Alexander, father, Claude Lawrence Alexander, two brothers, William E. Alexander and Claude W. Alexander and a beloved son, Lawrence A. Thornton (Alec).

Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Robert M. Thornton; son, William L. Thornton; daughter-in-law, Tracey L. Thornton, and granddaughter, Emily M. Thornton, all of Signal Mountain.

The family will have a private graveside service at Forest Hills Cemetery.
