Lightning Cuts Covenant-Centre Soccer Game Short

ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Covenant men's soccer team could feel another victory coming on. Unfortunately, lightning in the Atlanta area would take away any chance of the Scots getting their second win in as many days.

With 28:39 left in the second half, the match between Covenant and Centre was called off due to the weather conditions. Covenant held a 1-0 lead at the time. The match is officially a no contest and no statistics will be counted.

For a match to be considered official, 70 minutes must be played.
This one was just 8:39 away from that point.

Snoopy Davidson scored in the third minute, with assists from Ian Meredith and Joel Friesen, as he put the Scots ahead 1-0. Covenant was out-shooting Centre 10-3 overall and 5-0 in shots on goal when the match was called. But all those statistics will be thrown away.

Covenant will take its 1-0 record into next weekend's David Taaffe Invitational on Lookout Mountain. Maryville, Wilmington (Ohio) and Millsaps, along with Covenant, will make up the field. Covenant plays Friday, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. against Wilmington after Maryville and Millsaps play at 5 p.m.

Wheeler, Byrd Leads Notre Dame To District Win Over Signal Mountain

Notre Dame outscored Signal Mountain 27-16 in the third quarter to take a key district win Monday night.  Notre Dame led 30-20 at the half and finished the game with a convincing 76-48 win.  Davian Wheeler had 19 points and three assists to lead the Irish.  Tyler Byrd had 18 points.   Signal Mountain was led by Jarken Radden who finished with 17 points. ... Couple Arrested After 373 Grams Of Ice Meth And Loaded Gun Found At Their Hickory Valley Road Apartment

Federal authorities have arrested a Chattanooga couple after finding them with 373.4 grams of Ice meth at an apartment in East Brainerd. Charged with conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance are Sergio Lizaola and Amy Lee Ramos-Collazo. Lizaola is also charged on a firearm count.
