Blood Assurance Issues Critical Need For All Blood Types

The need for blood in the area served by Blood Assurance has reached critically low levels. All blood types are needed. Blood Assurance has experienced a 16 percent decrease in donations while hospital usage has increased by 25 percent.

Blood Assurance is a non-profit blood center that serves 47 counties in a five state region, and is the provider of blood and blood components for 70 healthcare facilities. Over 440 blood donors are needed every day in order to adequately supply the region served by Blood Assurance with lifesaving blood.

To be eligible to donate blood, participants must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with parental consent), weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good health. The process usually takes about 30 minutes and includes a complimentary snack and T-shirt. Donors are asked to drink plenty of fluids - avoiding caffeine - and eat a meal that is rich in iron prior to donating.

3 Hikers Missing In Big Soddy Creek Gulf Area Are Found Safe

Three hikers missing since Sunday afternoon at Big Soddy Creek Gulf have been found safe. They left around noon, and were supposed to return around 6 p.m. The hikers are a married couple and their friend. They are avid hikers. Pair Arrested In Connection With Lookout Mountain Vehicle Thefts, Break-Ins
