Driver Seriously Injured After Tree Falls On Car On Cummings Highway

A man suffered serious injuries when a tree fell on his vehicle and he crashed in the 2300 block of Cummings Highway on Tuesday afternoon.

The single-vehicle crash was reported to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office at 1:39 p.m. When deputies arrived on the scene, they found a 2014 Kia with a single occupant (driver).

He was removed from the vehicle with assistance from the Chattanooga Fire Department and transported to an area hospital.

Traffic Investigator, Deputy Todd Cook said the driver was traveling southbound when a large tree fell across the roadway, striking the vehicle on the roof.  The vehicle continued going southbound approximately 200 feet striking the guardrail in several places before coming to a stop in a ditch on the right side of the roadway.

The driver is a 56-year-old white male from Orangeburg, S.C.

Additional information involving the crash will be released as it becomes available and pending notification of next of kin.
