Charles A. Hurley, 63, of Cleveland, TN, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at his residence. 

He was born January 20, 1951, the son of the late Estel C. and Carrie Louise (Ward) Hurley. Charles was a native of Greenville, TN. He graduated from the University of Tennessee with BS and MBA degrees and received a Doctorate of Education from East Tennessee State University in 1993. He served as Vice President of Finance and Administration at Cleveland State Community College, retiring in 2009. He previously worked at Northeast State Technical Community College in Blountville, TN.

He was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church in Cleveland. He served as Cleveland District Lay Leader and on the Staff-Parish Relations Committee for the church. Charles loved music and he sang in the First United Methodist Church Choir and Vocal Rhapsody at Cleveland State Community College. He also volunteered at Cleveland/Bradley County Federal Credit Union and the United Way.

He is survived by his wife, Patty Bullock Hurley; children, Josh Hurley, Matt (Brandy) Hurley, Allison Corbett and Shawn Corbett; grandchildren, Xavier Hurley, Bettie, Miles, Izabella, Reagan and Charley Corbett; sister, Mary Elizabeth (Jack) Bowling; uncles, Bobby Kirk and Ivan (Linda) Ward; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Monday, August 11, at First United Methodist Church in Cleveland with Pastor Tim Bracken officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with United Methodist Men at First United Methodist Church serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 1-4 p.m. at the church prior to the service.

Memorials can be made to the Choir Fund or United Methodist Women at First United Methodist Church or to a charity of your choice. 

Arrangements are being handled by Grissom-Serenity Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
