More than 800 federal employees will participate in a day of service to local community organizations this Friday, during the Greater Chattanooga Area Combined Federal Campaign’s 22nd Annual Day of Caring.
“This year’s theme is ‘I Make it Possible’ and that’s the essence of what this campaign is all about,” said Dan Traynor, corporate information officer at the Tennessee Valley Authority and chairman of the 2014 CFC.
“The Day of Caring is a great way to kick things off, and to be part of something bigger than ourselves as we help others and our communities,” he said.
Federal employees will provide hands-on assistance – such as painting, building, cleaning, landscaping and cooking – for 55 requested projects at 44 area non-profit service agencies that receive contributions from the Combined Federal Campaign.
Each year, federal employees have the opportunity to contribute to charitable, health and human service organizations of their choice through the Combined Federal Campaign.
Established more than 50 years ago as a result of President Kennedy’s efforts, the Combined Federal Campaign has become the nation’s leading workplace giving program, raising more money for charity than any other annual employee-giving program.
The Greater Chattanooga Area Combined Federal Campaign includes approximately 8,600 federal employees in 21 counties in East Tennessee, Northeast Alabama, Northwest Georgia and Western North Carolina. Since 1987, gifts have totaled more than $38 million.
