Nine McCallie School seniors have been named National Merit Semifinalists for the 2013-14 school year. This academic honor places these students among the top one percent, or roughly 16,000, of the more than 1.5 million juniors who took the Preliminary SAT last year.

McCallie’s 2014-15 National Merit Semifinalists are David Bowman of Athens, Ala.; Wesley Brown of Charlotte, N.C.; Will Hopping of Chattanooga; Chris Kositzke of Deerfield, Wis.; Weimer Macuri-Espinoza of Cleveland, Tenn.; Grant McArtor of Boiling Springs, S.C.; Drew Shikoh of Signal Mountain; Philip Stephenson of LaFayette, Ga.; and Michael Trobich of Charlotte, N.C.

Thirty-four McCallie students have been recognized as National Merit Semifinalists since 2010.

"We are proud of the hard work and dedication of these scholars," says Headmaster Lee Burns. "The annual recognition of McCallie seniors as national merit semifinalists, along with the well over 100 McCallie students designated as AP Scholars each year, speaks to a culture of serious scholarship, academic excellence and inspirational teaching at McCallie."

All semifinalists will now be considered for National Merit Finalist status and could be one of about 8,000 students across the nation to earn National Merit Scholarships to the college of university of their choice.

McCallie also announced that 120 students were recognized as Advanced Placement Scholars for their outstanding work on AP exams.
