Emily Davis
Emily Joe Wright Davis died on Monday, September 8, 2014 at her home, Bat Creek Knobs, the Wright/Davis home place in Vonore, Tennessee. She was 91.
She was born in Sweetwater, Tn., on June 4, 1923. She was a graduate of Sweetwater High School and the University of Tennessee where she obtained her B.S. in Chemistry. While a student at UT she met and fell in love with James Wilson Davis. They married and embarked on a lifelong journey.
They lived in Portland, Kyoto, Japan, Morristown, Tn., New Orleans, St. Louis, Chattanooga, and on Signal Mountain, where they raised their six children. She was the former owner of Wright Hardware Store in Sweetwater, Tn. She loved people and she loved the mountains of East Tennessee. She always made those she came in contact with feel comfortable and welcome.
She was the only child of and was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Henry and Emily Gunn Wright, her beloved husband, Dr. James Wilson Davis, and daughter, Donna Lynn Brock.
She is survived by her children, Joseph Wayland Davis, James Wilson Davis, Jr. (Kelly), Emily Nora Davis, Mark Kinzel Davis, Pamela Davis Billings (Jeffery) and David Michael Brock (Jamie) and 10 grandchildren.
A memorial service will held on Saturday, Sept. 20, at 3 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Sweetwater, Tn.
The family will receive friends from 2 p. m. until time of service at the church.
