NAACP Ruby Hurley Image Awards Awardees Announcement

The Chattanooga- Hamilton County Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People will hold the 27th Annual Ruby Hurley Image Awards Banquet on Thursday, Oct. 9, 6:30 p.m. at Stratton Hall, 3146 Broad St. Door wills open at 6 p.m.

The Awardees for this year's Award Ceremony are:

Ruby Hurley Humanitarian - Dr. Thomas Rumph; Educator of the Year - Neshawn Calloway; Ralph Cothran Civil Service - (Police Civil Service) Lieutenant Corliss Cooper, (Fire-Fighter Civil Service) - Capt Terri Roshell; Viola Mapp Award – Sandra C. Affare; Hannah Martin “Spirit of Dedication” – Ann Jones-Pierre; James R. Mapp “Citizen of the Year” Award - Warbrit Lowery; Reginald “Reggie” White Student Athletes of the Year- (Male) Daaron Maston, (Female) Autumn Woods;  President’s Award – Eric Atkins.

The speaker for the evening will be Gloria Jean Sweet-Love, president, Tennessee State
Conferences of NAACP Branches. Mrs. Sweet-Love is an avid and active involved community
activist and champion for human rights. She concentrates on building good will and coalitions
with other like-minded community organizations.

"The Ruby Hurley Image Awards serves as the signature fundraiser for the branch. It also serves as an opportunity to recognize lifetime members, recruit new life and corporate members and to honor community activists who have given unselfishly," officials stated.

The theme for this year is Our Youth are Being Heard. Chattanooga’s own ACTSO Youth will provide entertainment. ACT-SO is an acronym for Afro-Academic, Cultural,
Technological, and Scientific Olympics. Dinner service is provided by Cakeman’s Catering.

Silent Auction previews and Sponsor Reception begin at 5:30 p.m.  General Tickets are $40 per person and may be purchased by calling the Branch Office at 423-267-5637 or through any member of the Board.  Door Prize for a Mexican vacation provided by World Ventures.
