Phyllis Wilson
Phyllis Elizabeth Wilson, 97, of Chattanooga, died on Saturday, September 13, 2014, in a local hospital.
She was born in Plymouth, England on March 2, 1917 to the late Fred and Elizabeth King.
She was the first office manager for EPB Employees Credit Union where she served for 20 years. She was a volunteer at St. Barnabas Retirement Center for 25 years. She was the president of the local chapter of the Daughters of the British Empire. She sang several years with the Sweet Adeline’s. As a very compassionate person she served on Meals on Wheels and took numerous people to the doctor and checked in on people who were ill. She was a charter member of St Peter’s Episcopal Church where she was an active member.
She is survived by her husband, Col. Harold S. Wilson, Retired Army, a daughter, Janice E. Jones, two granddaughters, Kimberley (Scott) Steele and Kasha (Travis) Griffith, and three great-grandchildren, Sarah Griffith, Ethan and Grace Steele (all of Chattanooga). She is also survived by two stepchildren Sandy (Susan) Wilson, of Alabama and Frances (Larry Adamski ) Wilson of Texas and their children, Cathy (Chris) Palladino, 2LT Chris and Paul Adamski. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews in England and Australia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Leslie and George King, sister, Joyce Hurt, her first husband, Maj. Fred Datres, and stepgranddaughter, Christie Wilson.
Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19, at Chattanooga National Cemetery, with the Reverend H. Hunter Huckabay officiating.
There will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Chattanooga Food Bank or St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.
Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
