green|spaces hosted the NextGen Homes Design Competition Finale on Tuesday. With over 100 people in attendance, teams consisting of architects, engineers and contractors from a 200-mile radius gathered to hear the announcement of the winning design. The top six teams presented their designs to the crowd explaining the elements of the first Net Zero Energy homes to be built in Chattanooga.

The winning design, Team 210, won $10,000 in addition to the potential paid commission for the development of construction documents. The other five finalists received $1,000 each.

Although only one design will be built by green|spaces, the others will be posted on the www.greenspaceschattanooga.com website. Future homeowners will be able to access the designs to see which they prefer and be connected with the designer and contractors.

Construction of the homes is planned to begin in Spring 2015. Dawn Hjelseth, director of Development at green|spaces said, “Once the first home is complete, it will be open to the public for tours. We want to educate everyone on newproducts and technologies that they can implement if they are building a new home or renovating. The technology is available, cost effective and provides long term savings for the homeowner along with the benefits to the health of the homeowner and the environment.”  After the tours, the homes will be sold to the public to fund future projects at green|spaces.
