Chickamauga Battlefield Bicycle Tour Sept. 20
Enjoy historical stories of the Civil War while riding through the scenic Chickamauga Battlefield Sept.
20, 9:30 a.m.
to noon! Hosted by the Friends of Outdoor Chattanooga along with the Friends of Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, this free event is available to adults and children 8 and older when accompanied by an adult. You may bring your own bicycle or borrow one from the Outdoor Chattanooga Mobile Bicycle Fleet. Helmets are required. To reserve a bicycle from the Battlefield Visitor's Center, please call (706)-866-9241.

Rapid Learning at Warner Park Sept. 17 & 24 
Outdoor Chattanooga's Rapid Learning Whitewater Program will host two more kayak skills practice sessions at Warner Park Pool, Wed., Sept. 17 & 24, before taking a fall hiatus.  Come paddle with us at 6 or 7 p.m. Adults and kids ages 8 and older can learn the skills they need to paddle area whitewater (and flat water) streams. Kayak Polo: Two More Sessions on Sept. 18 & 25
Outdoor Chattanooga will host two more non-contact kayak polo games at the Warner Park pool, 1101 McCallie Ave., on Thursdays, Sept. 18 & 25, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. No experience is necessary, but you do need to know how to "wet exit." The games are free and all equipment will be provided.

Sierra Club: Conservation Rambles in the Cherokee National Forest Sept. 22
The Sierra Club, Cherokee Chapter will welcome naturalist Davis Mounger for their monthly public meeting on Mon., Sept. 22, 7 p.m. at Outdoor Chattanooga, 200 River St. in Coolidge Park. Mounger, a science teacher at the Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences, will give a talk on the Cherokee National Forest and his forest preservation efforts. All interested members of the public are invited.

Park(ing) Day Sept. 19
Chattanoogans will celebrate Park(ing) Day all over the city this Fri., Sept. 18, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. In the downtown area alone, there will be 50 pop-up parks in parking spaces, including a special surprise along Market St., courtesy of Outdoor Chattanooga, Bike Chattanooga, Bike/Walk Chattanooga and Safe Routes to Schools. Take an extra long lunch hour and check it out.

Raccoon Mtn. Round the Rim Road Run Sept. 21
The Chattanooga Track Club will host the Raccoon Mtn. Round the Rim Road Run on Sat., Sept. 21, beginning at 9 a.m. at the top of TVA Raccoon Mtn. The event features 5K and 10K courses around the mountain reservoir with spectacular views of the TN River Gorge. Special registration discounts for runners 21 and under.

Skyhoundz World Disc Dog ChampionshipsSept. 27 & 28
Ironman may have the toughest athletes on two legs, but the Skyhoundz World Disc Dog Championships, happening on Sat. & Sun., Sept. 27 & 28, in Coolidge Park, boasts the world's impressive athletes of the four legged variety. A week of trials culminates in a weekend freestyle competition for dogs little and small. And the entire event is free and open to the public. Pack a picnic and come watch!
National Public Lands Day Sept. 27
Join special volunteer events and family activities at regional state, local and national parks on National Public Lands Day, Sat., Sept. 27. Take a hike to Foster Falls, help Harrison Bay S.P. dedicate a new raptor facility and clean up their trails, help maintain a bike trail at Fall Creek Falls S.P., take a map and compass class at Hiwassee/Ocoee S.P. or build a Cherokee themed medicinal garden at Red Clay Historic Park. There are dozens of events that beg for your participation within a short drive of Chattanooga.

UTC Intrasquad Rowing Regatta Sept. 27
The University of TN at Chattanooga will host their annual Intrasquad Rowing Regatta on Sat., Sept. 27, launching from the UTC rowing barges on the TN Riverpark. If you're on the river, keep your eyes peeled for crews.
Ironkids Chattanooga Fun Run Sept. 27
Kids ages 3-15 can experience the excitement of Ironman on a 1/4, 1/2 or full mile course at the Ironkids Fun Run, starting at 9 a.m. on Sat., Sept. 27, at Ross' Landing. Younger kids generally run the short courses, while kids nine and older tackle the full mile. But superkids may seed themselves wherever they wish. Cost is $15. Young runners may register online or in person on Thurs. and Fri., Sept. 25 & 26, or early Sat. a.m. before the race. To learn more, email Ironkids.
Little Debbie Ironman Chattanooga Sept. 28
The spectacle to watch on Sun., Sept. 28, at the inaugural Ironman Chattanooga, will be the swim start, which begins in waves at 7:30 a.m., 2.4 miles upriver of Ross' Landing. Stake out your spot on the Riverwalk or Walnut St. Bridge to watch the churning mass of competitors. To see other top spectating venues, visit "Your Guide to Ironman Chattanooga."

Friends of Outdoor Chattanooga Offers Climbing League Financial Aid
The Friends of Outdoor Chattanooga (501c3) have contributed $300 to a fund which will offer financial aid for student participants of the Chattanooga Area Interscholastic Climbing League (CAICL). The Outdoor Chattanooga program introduces and engages area high school students in the sport of climbing. Monies donated to the fund will be distributed among 12 participating high school teams for the 2014-2015 school year. The $300 donation will underwrite five students for eight scheduled meets, Nov. - Feb. at local indoor climbing gyms. Ironman Chattanooga Traffic Information
On Sun., Sept. 28, 5,000 competitors will take to the river and roads in and around Chattanooga for the first annual Little Debbie Ironman Chattanooga. Visit the event Website to see all details, including course maps and traffic impact.
