Laura Johnson Blevins died on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at the age of 87.
She was born in Guild, Tn., the only child of the late James and Mary Lou Johnson. She graduated high school from Peabody Demonstration School and received a degree in education from Peabody College in Nashville.
Mrs. Blevins was the loving wife of the late Rev. C. E. Blevins.
She had five children, Mary Blevins Williams (deceased), Jim (Eugenia) Blevins, Lydia Blevins (Wayne) Reynolds, Joel (Katie) Blevins, and Priscilla Blevins Curnutte. Her seven grandsons include B. Carkhuff, Kory (Amy) Blevins, Zach (Ayesha) Reynolds, Luke Reynolds, Charlie (Laura) Blevins, Andrew Blevins and Cole Curnutte. She had one granddaughter, Laura Reynolds (Terry) Farmer and one great-granddaughter, Anna-Leise Currie.
Mrs. Blevins taught school in the Chattanooga Public School System and served the churches that her husband pastored by teaching Bible study classes and playing the organ and piano for services. She and her husband also served as missionaries to Zambia, Africa for six and a half years in the 1980s. Later in life, Laura enjoyed attending church, making quilts, being with family and friends, and taking care of her three cats. She was a member of Silverdale Baptist Church.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of Alexian Brothers Valley Residence for all the kindness and loving care given to Laura Comfort while she was there.
The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20, at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road.
The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday. Burial will be later at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Reflection Riding & Arboretum at the Chattanooga Nature Center in honor of C.E. Blevins Avian Learning Center.
