Lamar Lindsey
Lamar Caswell "Papa" Lindsey, 92, of Rossville, died on Wednesday, September 17, 2014.
He was born to the late Cecil Claude and Lula J. Turner Lindsey in Ft. Payne and moved to the Chattanooga area at a young age. He was a member of Brainerd Baptist Church and serviced his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Lamar retired as an air traffic controller in 1973 before retiring from the Chattanooga Airport in 1984. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, who will be greatly missed.
Lamar was also preceded in death by his sister, Wilodean Lindsey and brothers, Vernon and Delmer "Fuzzy" Lindsey.
He is survived by his loving wife, of 31 years, Shirley Lindsey; children, Karen Diane Hight, of Ringgold, Raymond Joey Overturf, of Chickamauga, and Larry Lindsey, of East Brainerd; grandchildren, April Dawn Dover and Tyler Dylan Hight; special friend, Kevin Hoffman; and several other relatives.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 19, at Chattanooga National Cemetery, with Reverend Tim Turnipseed officiating.
The family will receive friends after 4 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18, and prior to the service on Friday.
