Bendabout Farm will again host free polo matches this weekend at 10 a.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Team USA headed by Bendabout Farm’s Gillian Johnston also includes Julio Arellano, one of the highest rated players in the sport. Team Mexico includes some of the best players and are equally matched to Team USA. These teams will be competing for the prestigious Bendabout Challege Cup which resides in the Polo Museum in Wellington, Florida, and is being brought here for these matches. As was the case last year, this year’s winners will also have their names inscribed on the base built to hold this trophy.
The Sunday match will also be a fund raiser for the 6th Cavalry Museum in Fort Oglethorpe.
Polo matches between Bendabout Farm and the 6th Cavalry stationed at Fort Oglethorpe date to the 1930s. While admission and parking is free to attend these matches, representatives from the museum will be on hand to answer questions and accept freewill donations.
Bendabout Farm is in McDonald, just south of Cleveland on Highway 11. Signs will mark the entry. Folding chairs are welcome, and there is plenty of bleacher seating.
