The Eighth Annual Erlanger Stroke Conference will convene this Saturday at 8 a.m. at the Chattanooga Convention Center. The conference theme is "The Cardiac Connection- New Perspectives on Cardioembolic Stroke".
The Conference Keynote speaker is Moussa Mansour, MD from the Massachusetts General Hospital and the Harvard Medical School in Boston.
According to Dr. Thomas Devlin, Neurosciences Department Chairman at Erlanger, "Atrial fibrillation has emerging as a leading cause of stroke and deserves increased attention by clinicians and researchers. Though 'A-fib' is a coronary event, it tends to induce blood clots that make their way to the head and neck, causing ischemic strokes".
"Atrial Fibrillation becomes more prevalent in an aging population. With the Baby Boomer demographic moving into retirement diagnosis, treatment and prevention strategies are getting more and more study by physicians. Dr. Mansour is a leading figure using surgical and interventional procedures to treat atrial fibrillation. We're honored that he will join us at the Erlanger Stroke Conference this year".
Moussa Mansour, MD, is the Director of the Cardiac Electrophysiology Laboratory and Director of the Atrial Fibrillation Program at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Dr. Mansour is an active clinical consultant in all aspects of heart rhythm disorders, including atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, supraventricular tachycardia, bradycardia and other abnormal rhythms. Dr. Mansour performs a large number of catheter ablation procedures and implants pacemakers and defibrillators to treat different arrhythmias.
He has published extensively in the field of cardiac arrhythmia, specifically the area of Atrial Fibrillation. Moussa Mansour is involved in cutting edge research and currently participating in the development of new catheters for the treatment of atrial fibrillation.
