Earlene Deeter, the coordinator for the do-it-yourself sessions at Home Depot, will teach people how to get organized in a free event at Dalton State.
As a part of the “Happiness Project” - an ongoing series of programs presented by Dalton State College in partnership with the Dalton-Whitfield County Library - “How to Get Organized” will teach people how to manage that clutter for a happier life.
The free event will be held Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 6:30 p.m. in Room 105 of the James E. Brown Center at Dalton State. It is open to the public.
Earlene Deeter, the coordinator for do-it-yourself sessions at the Dalton Home Depot, will lead the de-cluttering workshop. Deeter will instruct participants on how to free up room in the home, clear away unnecessary items, and take the first step to organizing their lives by organizing their space.
“Most people have at least one room in their house that becomes the junk room and they wish they could get it organized,” said Lydia Knight, director of Roberts Library. “Clutter in our homes and offices contribute to stress and anxiety, and getting these areas cleaned up and organized greatly contributes to happiness and contentedness.”
The “Happiness Project” programs are inspired by a book of the same title by Gretchen Rubin, which is read by students enrolled in Dalton State’s First-Year Experience course.
The Dalton-Whitfield Library is teaming up with Roberts Library to encourage not only students, but the community at large, to read up on how to make life simpler and happier.
Upcoming “Happiness Project” programs include a number of volunteer opportunities, such as “Operation Write Home,” a project devoted to making Christmas cards for members of the military. Additionally, there will be book discussions and movie screenings of “The Pursuit of Happyness,” “Julie & Julia,” and “Gifted Hands,” as well as children’s programs.
