  • Saturday, September 20, 2014

The Dalton State volleyball Roadrunners (5-5, 1-4 SSAC) played a very tough University of Mobile (13-1) squad hard Saturday afternoon but fell in straight sets, 3-0.

Anna Metzler led DS with eight kills and 11 digs. Savannah Nelson and Wendy Perez each added six kills. Alyne Bianchi had five kills and five digs. Karly Newman had 11 digs and Michala Askew had seven.

“We played really hard and we had a lot of leads,” said Lady Roadrunner Coach Bruna Langner. Mobile has had only one loss in 14 matches.  That was to the College of Coastal Georgia.

Saturday’s first set was tied at 18, but UM scored seven of the final nine points for the 25-20 win. The second set was tied at 13 before the hosts went on a 12-2 run. The third game was also close. The last tie of the afternoon was at 12, but UM broke open a two-point (21-19) lead and finished with the four point victory, 25-21.

Dalton State will entertain two more SSAC foes as the schedule continues next Friday and Saturday. Belhaven University will visit Bandy Gymnasium/Coach O Court on Friday night at 7. Faulkner University will be the visitors on Saturday afternoon at 2.
