Owl's Nest BBQ from Ooltewah, won the annual Blue/Gray BBQ Contest Saturday on the grounds of the Gordon-Lee Mansion in Chickamauga.

Team members Steve Ray, Dan Griess, Roger VanCleave, Bucky McCulley, Taylor Griess and Tyler Griess finished first in the chicken category and pork category. Team Sloppy Seconds from Marietta, Ga. finished in second place. Team Quinator BBQ from Chickamauga finished first in the rib category.

Ooltewah BBQ Brawl Set For June 23

The Ooltewah BBQ Brawl will be Saturday, June 23, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at Cambridge Square in Ooltewah. John Porter Franklin, long a leading figure in Chattanooga city government, has died.  He was the city's first, elected black official, post Jim Crow laws, in 1971. Mr. Franklin's father, G.W.
