The Covenant men's soccer team picked up its second straight victory on Saturday as the Scots shutout USA South foe Ferrum 1-0 on a warm, sunny day at Scotland Yard.

The victory pushes the Scots to 5-2-1 overall and a perfect 2-0 in the USA South. Covenant is one of four teams in the conference that have yet to lose a league match. Ferrum drops to 2-4-1 on the year and 0-2 in the USA South.

A day after squandering a late one-goal lead to Greensboro before winning in double overtime, the Scots made their one goal stand up in regulation on Saturday.
Mike Arango scored in the 12th minute, off an assist from Joel Friesen, to put the Scots up 1-0. Arango received a quick pass from Friesen on the right side of the 18-yard box and got the shot past a diving attempt from Ferrum keeper Zach Moorman. It was Arango's second goal of the season.

Covenant outshot Ferrum 10-5 in the opening period, but could not extend its lead. Each teamtook eight shots in the final 45 minutes of play.

Daniel Kubin made three saves for Covenant as he picks up his second shutout of the season. Moorman made four saves for the Panthers.

Arango took four of Covenant's 18 shots, while Danny Knight and Ian Meredith each had three shots. Knight was denied a goal on two occasions in the first half on diving saves by Moorman. Keith Ricks took three shots to lead Ferrum.

Covenant will return to Scotland Yard on Tuesday, Sept. 23 to face non-conference rival Berry. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
