The Covenant women's soccer team got to .500 for the first time this year by beating visiting Ferrum 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at Scotland Yard.
With the win, Covenant goes to 2-0 in the USA South and 4-4 overall. Ferrum drops to 0-2 in conference play, while its overall record now stands at 3-4.
After controlling the pace of the match Friday against Greensboro, the Lady Scots were once again in the driver's seat from the get-go, overmatching the Panthers and consistently putting pressure on their defense and goalkeeper Caitlyn Deaton.
However, Covenant was again unable to convert those early chances into goals.
A day after going scoreless into the 42nd minute against Greensboro, the Lady Scots went into halftime with an 8-3 shot margin but no goals to show for it as the score was knotted at zero.
Early in the second half, Covenant was finally able to break through when Anna Porch fed Bethany Logan just inside the 18-yard box, who was able to drive a shot past Deaton into the back of the net for the game-winning score in the 52nd minute.
Lucy Johnson got her second shutout in as many days, stopping one shot to get the victory. Deaton had five saves for the Panthers. Covenant had an impressive 16-4 advantage in shots for the game, led by Ruth Terry's four and Porch's three to go with her assist.
Covenant will take to the road for their next match when they travel to Birmingham, Alabama, to play Birmingham Southern at 8 p.m. eastern time on Tuesday.
Coach Mark Duble congratulates Anne Charlotte Strawbridge as she comes out of the game.
