It was another beautiful summer day in Atlanta’s Piedmont Park as Music Midtown hosted its closing night for the 2014 festival. The lineup, featuring artists such as Eminem, Zac Brown Band, Lana Del Ray, Greg Allman, and more, was sure to bring the crowds back for the second and final day of the event.
Festival goers already had in mind the solid performances they were battling long lines to see. In addition to the established acts there were also a few up-and-coming groups that really stood out.
One of those groups also happened to be one of the youngest. The Strypes, hailing from Ireland, are a four-piece band with half of its members not yet 18. The saying in one of their songs, “you can’t judge a book by the cover,” held true as this group of teenagers cranked out loud and aggressive old school rock n’ roll. Their performance on the Honda Stage was their first time in Atlanta.
Ohio-based duo Twenty One Pilots brought in a dedicated crowd that waited several hours in the hot sun for their performance. Both members of the band electrified crowds with thumping bass that shook the air. The crowd served as integral members of the show throughout the hour-long set. Lead vocalist, Tyler Joseph, ended the show stating, “We’re Twenty One Pilots and so are you, thank you!”
Many attendees camped out all day in front of the two headlining stages that would support Eminem and Zac Brown Band later that night. The sun dropped and so did the temperature as the festival seemed to come even more alive. Both headliners took their stages at 9 p.m. and closed out the night with two-hour sets.
