Helen “Peggy” Jane Cossiboon Gass, of Signal Mountain, died on Sunday, September 21, 2014.  She was 91.

Born in St. Paul, Mn., to the late Harry Emerson and Helen Rose Daniel Cossiboon, grew up in the Chicago area and had been a longtime resident of the Chattanooga area. Peggy retired from Chattanooga Printing Company. She was a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church and the Live Wires. In her later years, she was an avid quilter and enjoyed spending time with the Lone Oak Quilting Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur M. Gass; in-laws, Henry Clay Gass and Lou McBryar Gass; and siblings, Ruth Pettit, Ethel Burger, Irvin and Jack Cossiboon, James and Travis Allen.

She was a loving mother to her children, Donald (Marie) Gass of Acworth, Georgia, Jane (Doyle) Phipps of Crossville, Patricia (Don) Hill of Signal Mountain and Helen (Greg) Settles of Nolensville, Tennessee; Peggy adored her six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three step grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her stepsister, Valerie Sheetz of Chicago, and many nieces and nephews.   

The family will receive friends from 4-9 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 24, and 1-2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 25, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

A celebration of Helen’s life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 23, at the funeral home chapel with Reverend Wayland Stewart officiating.  Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens with her grandchildren serving as pallbearers.  

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
