A teen who was 15 at the time nine people were shot outside Club Fathom downtown on Christmas Eve 2011 pleaded guilty to three counts of aggravated assault on Tuesday.
Brandon Lebron Rakestraw, who is now 18, appeared before Criminal Court Judge Don Poole.
He received a three-year prison term to serve. Rakestraw has been in jail for 10 months.
Prosecutor Jason Demastus said few of the victims were willing to speak about the incident.
He said witnesses said one of the shooters was wearing black clothing and an orange shirt. He said Rakestraw was caught on video nearby in a similar outfit.
The prosecutor said Officer Jacques Weary was at the scene of the shooting, and he exchanged gunshots with the shooters.
There were at least four different types of shells found at the scene near Fourth and Cherry.
Club Fathom later moved to a new location.
Rakestraw also entered pleas in connection with an incident Jan. 10, 2012, in which he exchanged gunshots with Courtney Birt at Oak and Derby.
He was taken into custody on Nov. 6, 2013, after police drove by him and two other young black males on Highland Drive. Police said Rakestraw pointed toward his waist and made signs. Officers stopped and found he was carrying a Smith and Wesson handgun with 14 loaded rounds. The serial number had been altered. He also had several packages of marijuana on him.
Rakestraw got three years on each of the three aggravated assaults and concurrent two-year terms for possession of a deadly weapon and reckless endangerment.
He got a consecutive two-year suspended sentence for attempted possession of marijuana and 11 months and 29 days suspended for possession of a weapon.
Two of those shot were juveniles and the rest were adults. The worst of those shot was a 17-year-old male who was hit in the pelvis and immediately taken into surgery for his injury.
Police responded to 400 Cherry St. at midnight after multiple calls were received that several people had been shot. In the midst of the incident Officer Weary, who was working off-duty, advised that he fired at a suspect who pointed a gun at him during the shootings. The officer was working an extra job at Club Fathom.
Police closed a four-block area around the club after the shootings.
