Thousands of people are joining their voices across the U.S. this week in over 130 demonstrations and educational events centered around climate change. Here in Chattanooga, the opportunity to "oppose man-made climate change and other acts of economic violence to marginalized people" will be on Sunday at Coolidge Park, said officials. Grace Episcopal Church, UTC E.D.G.E., Cherokee Sierra Club, Pilgrim Church, Climate Chattanooga and members of the Quaker Meeting and U.U. Church are promoting and participating in the event.
There will be presentations on peace, the climate, poverty, race and gender equality, and an interfaith prayer service.
“Unfortunately, most of us have remained complacent for too long about the harms we inflict on one another and our world,” remarked David Stanislawski, head of the Grace Episcopal Church Taskforce on Nonviolence, which is coordinating the event. “This event is an opportunity for us to learn how to take concrete steps to address these issues and begin to reverse some of the damage that has been done.”
The Campaign for Nonviolence: Climate March will take place Sunday from 1:30-3 p.m. at the Coolidge Park Pavilion.
