Lee’s Fall Convocation To Begin Sunday

  • Thursday, September 25, 2014

Lee University students, faculty and staff will soon come together for fall Convocation, a concentration of six chapel services over four days. This time of spiritual reflection and renewal will begin on Sunday with a message from Lee President Dr. Paul Conn.

On Monday evening, Lee welcomes back Dr. Josh Rice, pastor of leadership and community development at Mount Paran North Church of God in Marietta, Ga.  Dr. Rice earned his doctorate in New Testament studies from the Lutheran School of Theology, his master of divinity from Columbia Theological Seminary, and his bachelor’s degree from Lee University.

Pastor Loran Livingston will speak Tuesday evening.  Pastor Livingston is a Lee alumnus and pastor of Central Church of God in Charlotte, N.C. He served as an evangelist for five years before accepting the pastorate of Central Church in 1977. He has spoken many times at Lee’s chapels and convocations.

Wednesday evening will feature Stan Lester, pastor at Crosspointe Christian Center in Dalton. He previously served on staff at Trinity Chapel in Powder Springs, Ga., for 17 years where he was a part of a dynamic ministry that grew to over 5,000 people. He has served in full-time ministry since graduating from Lee in 1986.

Weeknight convocation services begin at 7:30 p.m. and Tuesday/Thursday morning chapel services at 10:40 a.m. All services will be located in the Conn Center and overflow will be provided in the Dixon Center.

Each service will host live worship featuring Lee’s Chapel Praise Band.

“Convocation is a special time at Lee University in which we set aside a few days for spiritual emphasis each semester,” said Dr. Jimmy Harper, campus pastor. “We gather together to dig into worship and the Word in an effort to focus on our relationship with God.”

Daytime chapel services during convocation will feature worship led by campus ensembles. Campus Choir will lead in the Conn Center on Tuesday, and Kingdom Players in Dixon Center. Lee Singers will take the Conn Center stage on Thursday, and Evangelistic Singers will lead in the Dixon Center.

Lee encourages all students and guests to come out and participate in this semester’s Convocation. For those unable to attend, all services will be available for live stream viewing at http://leeuniversity.edu/video/
