William Eugene “Bill” White, Jr., 49, of Rossville, died on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at his residence.

Bill was born at Hutcheson Medical Center in Fort Oglethorpe on Sept. 7, 1965, and had resided in the Rossville area for most of his life.  He was of the Baptist faith and his early years were spent at Rossville First Baptist Church, where he was active in the youth programs.

An all-around sports person, Bill was active in Little League baseball and basketball. He was a 1983 graduate of Rossville High School, where he excelled as a member of the varsity basketball team. He attended the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

Bill officiated as an umpire at various high school baseball games and was proud to coach his son, Cameron, in a travel baseball team.  An avid Alabama sports fan, he followed with great enthusiasm all University of Alabama football games, as well as the Braves baseball and Falcons football games.  He enjoyed taking his Georgia friends and son to Fyffe, Al., where his parents grew up, to fish in cousin, Kerry Westbrook’s fish pond.

Much of Bill’s career was spent in the textile industry, the most enjoyable years as a department supervisor as Rossville Yarn where he worked among family and friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his grandparents, Rufus (Mary) White and Herbert (Vada) Westbrook, all of Fyffe, Al.

He is survived by his devoted son, Cameron White; loving parents, William Eugene “Gene” White, Sr. and Vera Westbrook White; uncle, Edd (Ila) Westbrook; uncle, Carl (Sarah) White; aunt, Doris White; several cousins; special friends, Sabrina Curtis who is the mother of his son and Ginger Phillips.

Condolences may be sent to www.lane-southcrestchapel.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rossville First Baptist Church or Rossville Ministries, 100 Spring Street, Rossville, Ga. 30741.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 27, at 1 p.m. in the South Crest Chapel with Reverend Jason Thomas, Reverend Joel Westbrook, and Reverend Paul Williams officiating.

Interment will follow in the Lakewood South Memory Gardens with Scott Elrod, Justin Lawson, Scott Moore, Brad Prater, Kerry Westbrook, and Scot Westbrook serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory, at the end of historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
