Tennessee Tourism Calendar: Grand Openings And Fall Festivals

Sept. 26-27

Pikeville – Learn about sky viewing equipment, see stars, and discuss astronomy with field experts during the Tennessee Fall Star Gaze at Fall Creek Falls State Park.

Brownsville – The Tina Turner Museum at Flagg Grove School will have its grand opening in conjunction with Tina Turner Heritage Days beginning noon Sept. 26 at the West Tennessee Delta Heritage Center. The weekend will include music, tours, contests and more.

Sept. 27

Nashville – Learn about commerce, culture, conservation and careers of America’s waterways with special events 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for opening day of the temporary exhibit, “Riverworks Discovery” at Adventure Science Center.

Ripley – Enjoy fine arts, crafts, and music at the Ripley Main Street Art Festival 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in downtown Ripley.

Halls – Celebrate agricultural heritage at the Lauderdale County Fair Ag Expo with vendors, pony rides, inflatable jousting area, bike and car show, and wrestling at 794 Co-Op Drive.

Townsend – The 8th annual Heritage Center Blue Ribbon Country Fair will feature a rooster crowing contest, catch a greased pig contest, music, and more 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center. Tickets are $5.

Sept. 27-Jan. 4, 2015

Nashville – William Edmondson and Friends: Breaking the Mold” will officially open, featuring Edmondson’s sculptures with works by other painters and sculptors who followed his footsteps at Cheekwood Botanical Garden & Museum of Art.

Sept. 30

Townsend – Bill Lea will give a discussion on “Understanding the Black Bear 2 p.m. at the Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center.

Oct. 1-31

Mountain City – See more than 40 zany and imaginative scarecrow exhibits as part of Scarecrows on Main this October on Main and church Streets in downtown Mountain City.

Chattanooga – ODDtober presents the weird side of nature with keeper talks and dive programs 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. this October at the Tennessee Aquarium.

Union City – Marvel at pumpkin sculptures, cornstalk horses, hay bale creatures, and a scarecrow village through October at Discovery Park of America.

Oct. 2

Jackson – Female vocal trio, Wilson Phillips will join The Jackson Symphony for the Jackson Symphony 22nd Annual Legend Concert which will encompass their own hits as well as the greatest hits of their parents’ bands: The Beach Boys and the Mamas and the Papas 8 p.m. at the Carl Perkins Civic Center.

Oct. 4

Waynesboro – Celebrate autumn’s arrival with local entertainment, food and fun at the Waynesboro Harvest Festival in downtown Waynesboro.

Stewart County – Celebrating Corn! will encompass the history of how the grain was used, crafts, and food 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Land Between The Lakes.

Murfreesboro – Partake in a morning tour of Evergreen Cemetery which began as a slave burial ground in the mid-1800’s 10 a.m. beginning at the cemetery entrance on Greenland Dive.

Portland – A free concert, barbecue and Sumner Crest Wine will be offered at the BBQ, Blues Rock & Roll event 5 p.m. at Sumner Crest Winery.

Hurricane Mills – Enjoy music from Loretta, Crystal Gayle and Peggy Sue Lynn for Loretta Lynn’s last 2014 at-home concert 6 p.m. at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch.

Oct. 10

Nashville – See the family film, Coraline, a curious girl who enters a parallel reality through a mysterious door in her family’s new home 7 p.m. at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts’ Auditorium.

Oct. 10-11

Lewisburg – Joe Diffie and The Marshall Tucker Band will be some of the music acts during the 12th annual Goats Music and More Festival which also includes family-friendly activities at Rock Creek Park in Lewisburg.

Oct. 10-11, Oct. 24-25

Jonesborough – A Spot on the Hill” will share stories of the inhabitants in the old cemetery 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Old Jonesborough Cemetery.

Oct. 14

Memphis – Pearl Jam will have their first return to Memphis in over a decade, performing big hits and new releases 7:30 p.m. at the FedExForum.
