A Tennessee State Trooper arrested a man wanted by North Carolina authorities during a commercial vehicle checkpoint in Cumberland County on Friday morning.

Trooper Chris Adams was conducting a commercial vehicle inspection on a 2015 Freightliner tractor trailer on Interstate 40 eastbound at mile marker 307 at approximately 9:33 a.m. It was during the inspection that the trooper ran a driver’s license validation check and discovered the driver had four felony warrants out of North Carolina.  The warrants included two for statutory rape as well as solicitation by computer and indecent liberties with a child.

The driver, Shaun Michael Wiegand, 26, of Thomasville, N.C., was taken into custody and will await extradition to Lexington, N.C. He is being held at the Cumberland County Jail.

Wiegand was transporting FedEx packages for U.S. Express. He was en route from North Carolina to California.

The truck was released to the co-driver and returned to the roadway.
