Midnight Madness Finds ChattState

  • Monday, September 29, 2014

Basketball season is just around the corner and rumblings of “Midnight Madness” events can be heard at colleges around the nation. Count Chattanooga State in on the bandwagon for 2014 when the college offers fans its very first “Midnight Madness” pre-season event to kickoff basketball season.

Students, faculty, staff, and the general public are invited to attend this first-ever event. Doors open at 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, while the madness begins at midnight with music, cheerleading, and free food. The first 100 attendees through the doors at 11:30 p.m. will receive a free T-shirt.

At precisely 12 a.m., local DJ Garry Mac, will announce women’s team members followed by a 3-point women’s shootout competition between freshmen guards Sydney Sims and Kiera Jones, and Daja Jackson, sophomore guard. Next, Travis Glover and Mike Williams, assistant coaches at ChattState, will coach the women’s scrimmage, on a 12-minute running clock.

The men’s team gets their turn next following introductions. Coaches Glover and Williams will coach the men’s scrimmage, also on a 12-minute running clock, followed by the last event: the men’s dunk contest between Tramon Moore, freshman guard; Chaunce Watkins, sophomore short forward; and Montrell McKenzie, sophomore power forward. One lucky attendee will be chosen to judge the dunks.

Regular season begins Nov. 4. Visit www.chattanoogastate.edu/athletics for more information or call 697-3370.
