  • Monday, September 29, 2014

Two men charged in an armed robbery at Americash on Highway 58 got reduced sentences after a prosecutor said a clerk had declined to testify against them.

Eric Leprey Williams, 19, and Alex Odom, 20, were charged with aggravated robbery and conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery.

Williams wound up pleading guilty to a reduced charge of robbery. He was sentenced to eight years with 11 months and 29 days to serve in the workhouse and the rest on enhanced probation with an electronic monitor.

Odom pleaded guilty to facilitation to commit aggravated robbery. He got four years suspended. The first year he will be on enhanced probation, then it will be supervised probation.

Prosecutor Cameron Williams said the  clerk who was robbed on Dec. 30, 2011, "either is fearful or did not want to take the time to come to court."

He said the pair burst into the office with Williams wielding a .380 pistol. Odom went around the counter and took the cash.

They were caught after a brief chase.

The clerk made an ID of Williams and said she believed Odom was the second man.
